Can i attach extra lights to my Scooter?
So that I am easier to see at night? Neon lights in my country are legal on cars, but I am not sure what the legislation is on Scooters and Motorcycles. Probably the same applies. But what can I do to make me more visible at night aside from a reflective jacket?
More lights seems logical enough no?
Uff, Bob it’s hard to understand everything you say. I find myself googling all the big terms. But I do believe you are the most knowledgeable regarding the matter so I will try harder to understand.
In the 60’s we had Lambs and Vespas with so many lights you couldn’t see the front.
But the 6 volt direct A/C systems or later, battery jobs, could only light two at most at any one time, and they flickered on tickover.
Nowadays you have 12 volts and a weeny battery; any extra lamps will cane the battery except when you’re flat out, with the generator at full output.
1) Change the headlamp bulb for a Philips high output Xenon, but do not up the wattage too much else you’ll run out of sparks.
2) Consider aftermarket LED projector lamps, which you could turn on at high speed for a while and the relatively lower current draw compared to regular bulbs may be worth it.
3) Use a proper full quality relay to power extra lamps, get good earths on the original head lamp and the extra ones.
4) If you look at the wiring fitted by the maker, you’ll be amazed how thin the wires are – money talks of course, but volts need wire area. Consider a rewire job from the relay to the head lamp using real fat wires.
5) Email Mister Goss in UK he does all sorts of bulbs with better outputs, even halogen tail bulbs but these get hot and can mess the plastic reflectors (I know that why, you ask?)
